Workshop on Fall and Dementia

Workshop: Fall and Dementia

Workshop: Fall and Dementia

Description

People with dementia are known to have higher risks of falls compared to other seniors. Caregivers and family members are always struggling to manage their loved ones from falls due to their deteriorated cognition and challenging behavior. With a reduced understanding of the fall mechanism, people with dementia are always being restrained from moving around. In fact, restraint causes more falls when the elderly attempt to get out of it.
In this workshop, you will be able to:
• Understand the underlying causes of falls among people with dementia and common types of falls.
• Describe the red flags and warning signs that indicate increased risks of falls in people with dementia.
• Understand the pharmacological treatment options for fall prevention.
• Perform home-based balancing and strengthening exercises suitable for people with cognitive impairment.
• Create a dementia-friendly environment with reduced fall risks.

Certificate and 4 CPD points will be given at the end of the workshop.
