Dementia at End of Life
Prof. Dr. Tan Maw Pin's webinar on Dementia at End of Life.
This webinar takes place on
June 19, 2021
.
Description
There is currently no known cure for dementia. The best available treatment for persons living with dementia is to maximize function and quality of life, but the reality is that dementia remains a terminal disease with a very long disease course.
It is important to plan for the end of life, and this should be done as early as possible. Talking about dying is not all doom and gloom. It does not necessarily have to be a sad thing to do, as it gives the person living with dementia and their loved ones an opportunity to reflect on a life well lived and to address unresolved conflicts.
Planning allows us to ensure that the older person living with dementia is able to have their own wishes exercised even when a point comes when they can no longer communicate their decision.
In this webinar, Prof. Dr. Tan Maw Pin, who is the medical director at Genting Dementia Care Centre and Geriatric Medicine Professor at the University of Malaya, gives us details on how to plan for the end of life.
